Microcombs and solitons

A microresonator can turn one laser line into a comb of evenly spaced frequencies. We study how solitons form and interact in these resonators and how to engineer their dispersion, from dark soliton combs in thin multimode silicon nitride rings to solitons induced by fifth-order dispersion and combs that span an octave. Evenly spaced combs also serve as rulers for light: we work on frequency measurement, spectroscopy and distance sensing with resonators and stabilised lasers.
